The Lenovo™ PC Diagnostics 2.0 app is designed to assist users with the display and debug of diagnostic information available on select Lenovo ThinkPad™ models (ThinkPad 13 2nd gen or later) and select ThinkStation™ (models P520, P720, P920). Downloading and launching this application will allow you to acquire the audio tones that are produced by your ThinkPad or ThinkStation when an abnormal or error condition is present. The tones are then translated to a specific error message which will be displayed on your smartphone. The application requires your phone to have an operating system level of Android v12 and above. Operating systems below v4.0.3 will not work with this application.

it didn't work with my phone. Tried all the ways possible and put the phone closest as possible to the computer speakers and it couldn't ever detect anything. Also the option to manually input the codes makes the app crash. Wish it had a catalogue with the sounds of error codes so at least we could manually search for it

Tried it on ThinkPads to record SmartBeep tones - this app barely works and has a poor user experience. Often, it detects the tone and just displays asterisks rather than the actual code, or gives a 6 digit code that is not valid. To cause further annoyance, it stops recording audio even before the correct code is determined, or also if the device is rotated while recording. The app gave me the most unhelpful experience trying to diagnose issues on ThinkPads.

works surprisingly well
