8B Souls: Life Simulator

You could have been born anywhere. 8B Souls is a life simulator that decides your birth the way the world does: by real-world odds across 200 countries and territories. Then you live that life year by year, from birth to death.

More than 8 billion people are alive today, and about 4 babies are born every second. Roughly 1 in 6 is born in India, 1 in 36 in the United States, 1 in 98 in Vietnam. Every birth is random, weighted by where babies are really born. Spin the map, see your chance for each country, and meet the person you became this time.

Born by real odds
• Be born today, in a past year back to 1950, or in a future year up to 2100
• Get your birth registration: name, city or village, parents, brothers and sisters
• See how your family's income compares with other families in your country
• Meet the babies born in the same second as you elsewhere in the world, and follow their lives next to yours

Live a whole life, year by year
• A full lifetime takes 30, 60 or 90 minutes. Pause, skip ahead or speed time up
• Choose a focus for each year and spend your money: a checkup, a short course, a family trip, a gift for your parents
• Face real life choices: stay in school or start working, move to the city, start a business, get married, have another baby, look after a parent, retire
• Health, Happiness, Knowledge and Bonds respond to how you live
• Nearly 600 everyday moments, from the first day of preschool to the grandkids coming to stay
• Make a wish for this life before the first year begins, then see if you reach it

A realistic life sim built on real data
• Life tables, births, income, schooling, jobs, marriage, laws, wars and history for each country, decade by decade
• Future years follow UN population projections and climate scenarios
• Your money is shown in your country's own currency, with what it really buys there
• Sources include the United Nations World Population Prospects 2024, the World Bank, WHO, ILO, the Wittgenstein Centre and the Uppsala Conflict Data Program

Your life against the numbers
• Survival odds: how much of your generation is still alive, age by age
• Life expectancy where you were born, next to how long you actually lived
• One square per year: a happiness map of your whole life
• Find out how many of the babies born with you that you outlived

When the story ends
• Your story plays back as a short film, scene by scene, with a farewell line
• Read your life record: your life story, your quiet moments and the lines you wrote
• Discover your life shape, one of 16, and share your story card with friends

Collect lives from around the world
• Your passport gets a stamp for every country you are born in
• Keep every life you have lived, finished or still going, in one collection
• Country stats for 200 countries: world population, births per day and your chance of being born there
• A new event card every day on a real-world theme, from the road to school to leaving home for work
